Inter-stellar Travel-
Classroom of the Future

2nd July 2004

Internet Videocommunications is delighted to have contributed to Cornwall County Council’s innovative ‘Classroom of The Future’ project.

Working closely with the Camborne Poole & Redruth (CPR) Success Zone team, we have designed and installed an innovative and exciting video conferencing & multimedia environment.

“The CPR Learning Space aims to excite, support, advise and train those who wish to extend the potential of high ability learners within schools and the wider community, whilst inspiring all learners to raise their aspirations, enjoy learning and excel in terms of their levels of achievement’’ said Sue Sayer, Learning & Teaching Team Leader.

The CPR Learning Space will offer:
* State of the art technology
* Experimental learning and teaching for all
* Environmental sustainability
* Raised levels of aspiration and achievement of the
whole community
* Excellence in gifted and talented provision

Designed to challenge perceptions of a learning environment, the futuristic building has intentionally been designed to be a flexible space for multi purpose use. All together there are 5 learning spaces – 3 larger and 2 smaller units, all fully kitted out for our high tech futures – reality of life on earth will be suspended and visitors will be transported to a new world in space.

The building is fully sustainable with many interesting environmental features:-
* Geothermal heating
* Solar Powered electricity
* Recycled paper and fleece insulation
* A timber frame from sustainable woodlands
* Sunpipes’ for lighting and ‘windcatchers’ for ventilation
* Grey water and solvent free paints using natural pigments

Visitors to the CPR Learning Space will have access to the best technology money can buy, including a wireless network of tablet PCs; PDAs; multi image projection covering an entire wall, numerous large plasma screens; holographic displays; pan, zoom and tilt video conferencing facilities and unique, quality sound and lighting effects.

Broadband will link the IT network to local homes, as well as to world class facilities across the globe including NASA or the Leicester Space Centre. Learners will be able to boldly go where no learner has had the opportunity to go before, through a wide range of challenges inspired by Space.

The nature of the entire Classroom of the Future is that it can evolve and develop. At the moment Inter-stellar travel is the main feature. This could change and suggested future themes are 'Deep sea exploration' or 'The sights and sounds of World War Two'.
