Miliband officially opens
The Classroom of the Future
18th
November 2004
Today,
the DfES in partnership with Cornwall County Council, officially opens
a unique, state-of-the-art Information and Communications Learning Space,
designed and installed by Internet Videocommunications.
Working
closely with the Camborne Pool Redruth (CPR) Success Zone team, Internet
Videocommunications has designed and installed an innovative and dynamic
multimedia education centre - the only one in the country to exist independently
of a school and which is accessible to all.
The CPR Learning Space officially opens it doors today in a VIP ceremony,
fronted by Minister of State for School Standards, David Miliband.
David
Miliband, speaking on his involvement in the ‘Classrooms of the
Future’ initiative, states, “ICT can give schools the
option of teaching children as individuals, in small groups and in large
groups, and can provide electronic links to other schools and facilities
in this country and abroad.” He goes on to say, “If
we are really serious about raising standards, we need to design buildings
that both children and teachers find stimulating as well as functional”.
The
CPR Learning Space is packed with the latest technology including video
conferencing, holographic displays, a multi-image projection wall and
even remote control robotics. This unique facility offers:
* Experimental learning
and teaching for all
* Environmental sustainability
* Raised levels of aspiration and achievement
of the whole community
* Excellence in gifted and talented provision
Sue
Sayer, Learning and Teaching Team Leader for the CPR Learning Space says:
“Staff are excited, parents are excited, students are excited.
We want our centre to be a place where barriers to learning are broken
down, at a personal, organisational and community level."
Sue
added, "IVC (Internet Videocommunications) have been an exciting
team to work with. At all times, IVC have combined friendly approachability
with professionalism. The unique nature of our project demanded a flexible
adaptability from IVC who proved highly client orientated to find the
best solution for our needs. They have certainly gone more than the 'extra
mile' on this project, for which we are extremely grateful."
